Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 22

In Greene County district court Eric Franklin Vansumple, 33, of Lidderdale was sentenced Nov. 18 to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all treatment recommendations at his own expense. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program at his own expense in lieu of the jail time and the required drinking drivers school. He was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Vansumple was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail term was suspended. The jail terms will be concurrent if they’re served. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Cheyenne Selena Vasquez, 27, of Ankeny, possession of marijuana; and Timothy Patrick Day, 61, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated. Trial dates were set for Jan. 28, 2025 in both cases.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Beau Robert Davis, 18, of Grand Junction, operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana; Melanie Marie Smith, 24, of Jefferson, accessory after the fact; Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 36, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; and Ashley Maire McGrauth, 27, of Jefferson, accessory after the fact.
